The new elements have a stronger expanded steel outer shell and a continuous spiral glue bead on the outside surface of the filter media. These changes will make the new filter elements stronger and more reliable. One of the elements has a filter media that is treated with oil. The oil treatment will help prevent carbon (soot) from plugging the filter. This element is recommended for marine and low dust applications only. The oil treatment can result in rapid plugging in other applications.Adaptable To: The new 1059741 Primary Air Cleaner Element Assembly is a direct replacement for the former 4W5452 Primary Air Cleaner Element Assembly. The former element assembly is canceled. The new optional 1059742 Primary Air Cleaner Element Assembly (mineral oil treated media) can also be used as a direct replacement for the former element assembly in marine or low dust applications. The new optional 1059742 Primary Air Cleaner Element Assembly can NOT be cleaned and reused. This is because of this air cleaner's mineral oil treated media. The new 1059741 Primary Air Cleaner Element Assembly CAN be cleaned and reused. See the Reference.The air cleaner primary element assembly should be inspected frequently. The element should be replaced when the restriction (pressure drop across filter element) reaches 3.7 kPa (15 in. H2O). If an engine is operated with an air cleaner filter element restriction greater than 3.7 kPa (15 in. H2O), the result can be turbocharger compressor surge, excessive turbocharger speed, or excessive engine component temperature.
