Illustration 1 g01113785Parking Brake SolenoidThis diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM reads the current of the parking brake solenoid as above normal (short to ground).The possible causes of this diagnostic code are:
The energize circuit of the parking brake solenoid is shorted to ground.
The parking brake solenoid is malfunctioning.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely.System Response:The results of this diagnostic code are:
Propel diagnostic code lamp on the machine operator's station will be ON.
The machine will not be allowed to propel.Note: Ensure that the diagnostic code CID 044 FMI F06 for the parking brake solenoid is on hold and that the diagnostic code present indicator on the ECM display is ON.Test Step 1. Check Parking Brake Solenoid
Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
Observe the status of the diagnostic code present indicator (ON or OFF).
Disconnect the machine harness from the parking brake solenoid. Expected Result:The diagnostic code present indicator should turn OFF when the parking brake solenoid is removed from the harness.Results:
OK - The diagnostic code present indicator does turn OFF when the parking brake solenoid is removed from the machine harness.Repair: The circuit is correct. The parking brake solenoid is malfunctioning. Replace the parking brake solenoid.STOP
NOT OK - The diagnostic code present indicator does not turn OFF when the parking brake solenoid is removed from the machine harness. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. Check Parking Brake Solenoid Energize Circuit For Short To GroundThe machine harness remains disconnected from the parking brake solenoid.
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the ECM.
At the machine harness connector, measure the resistance from the energize signal circuit at connector contact 35 (wire P307-BR(Brown)) to all possible sources of ground. The possible ground sources are connector contacts 2 and 39. Expected Result:Each resistance should measure greater than 5000 ohms.Results:
OK - Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - One or more of the resistance measurements is less than 5000 ohms.Repair: There is a short in the machine harness for the parking brake solenoid circuit. The short is between the energize signal circuit (wire P307-BR(Brown)) and the circuit with the low resistance measurement. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 3. Check To See If Diagnostic Code Remains
Clean the contacts of the harness connectors.
Reconnect all harness connectors.
Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
Enter service mode 1 on the ECM three digit display. Clear all inactive diagnostic codes.
Operate the machine.
Check to see if the CID 044 FMI F06 diagnostic code for the parking brake solenoid is present (diagnostic code present indicator ON). Expected Result:The CID 044 FMI F06 diagnostic code for the parking brake solenoid is not present.Results:
OK - The CID 044 FMI F06 diagnostic code for the parking brake solenoid is not present. The machine harness and the ECM are operating properly.Repair: The initial diagnostic code was probably caused by a poor electrical connection or a short at one of the harness connectors that
