(4) Parking brake switchParking brake (2) is located on the rear of the transmission. When the oil pressure in the brake system drops below a given pressure, parking brake actuator (1) engages the parking brake.

(3) Parking brake indicatorThe parking brake can be engaged by the parking brake switch (4). Parking brake switch (4) is located on the console to the right of the operator. Reference Illustration 2A normally closed pressure switch is located on the parking brake control valve. When the parking brake engages, the pressure switch sends a signal to both the transmission electronic control module (ECM) and the Caterpillar Monitoring System. When the parking brake engages, the pressure switch activates the parking brake indicator (3) on the dashboard. When the parking brake engages, the transmission will shift into neutral. This only occurs if the transmission is in either first speed forward or first speed reverse.
