Information:
1. Remove bolts (3) and (4) and the nuts that hold gear segment (5) in position on the tie bar for the control.2. Remove bolts (1) that hold cover (2) in position. Remove the cover. 3. Remove the bolts that hold cap (6) in position. Remove the cap. Remove the cotter pin that holds the nut in place. Loosen nut (7) but DO NOT REMOVE. 4. Pull the pinion off the taper with tooling (A). Remove nut (7) from the pinion. Remove the pinion, gear and spacer.
Use a hardened bolt and washer when the pinion is removed.
5. Remove seal (8) from the axle. 6. Remove the bushings from the front axle with tooling (B). 7. Remove nut (9) and the washer from the shaft. Remove joint (11) from the shaft. Remove bolts (10) that hold the bearing on the front axle. Remove the key. 8. Remove bearing (12) and shims (13) from the front axle. 9. Remove worm (15) and shaft (14) from the front axle. 10. Remove bearing (16) from the front axle.Assemble Leaning Wheel Control
1. Install the bearings for the pinion shaft with tooling (A). 2. Install the seal for the pinion shaft with tooling (B). 3. Install the bearing for the worm shaft with tooling (C). 4. Install worm (2) and shaft (1) in the front axle. 5. Install worm gear (3) with the taper toward the back of the machine. 6. Install pinion shaft (4) into front axle (5) and the worm gear. 7. Put key (6) in position in the pinion shaft. 8. Install sleeve (7) in the front axle. Install the nut and cotter pin on the pinion shaft. 9. To make an adjustment of the end clearance, put bearing (8) in place without the shims. Tighten all the bolts the same amount to remove the end clearance. Measure the distance from the bearing to the housing with a feeler gauge. Remove the bearing and install shims (9) that are .005 in. (0.13 mm) more than the measured distance. 10. Install the key on the shaft. Install joint (11), washer and nut (10) on the shaft.11. Install cover (12) and bolts (13) on the front axle. 12. Make the adjustment for gear clearance (backlash) between gear segment (15) and the drive pinion. Add shims (14) to decrease gear clearance (backlash) and remove shims (14) to increase gear clearance (backlash). Make the gear clearance (backlash) as near zero as possible with out any restriction between the gear segment and pinion. Install the gear segment on the tie bar.
