Water causes corrosion of fuel system surfaces and can damage fuel pumps. For injector components that are of tight clearances, water does not offer the lubricity and hence causes wear of the surfaces. The effective removal of water is critical to the performance of fuel system components.Caterpillar offers effective barrier type fuel water separators that are recommended for use on any engine or machine. This barrier type filter removes large water droplets from the fuel. The water droplets fall to the bottom of the filter where the droplets are collected in a void or bowl. Water must be drained from the filter before the water reaches the filter media. Check the water level in the fuel water separator daily and by draining the water separator as necessary.Cat fuel water separators are available in various capacities.
