TRACK ROLLER LUBRICATION
1. Shaft. 2. Duo-Cone seals. 3. Plug. 4. Reservoirs. 5. Passage. If lubricant is added with the track roller removed from the machine, the shaft must be in a horizontal position and the flat surface on one side of the shaft must be on top.Front Idlers
The front idlers put the tracks in position in front of the track rollers. They also keep the tracks in alignment with the sprockets. The adjustment of the tracks is done by the movement of the front idlers. The track adjusters move the front idlers and hold them in position.Alignment of the front idler with the track rollers is done with shims (2) and (10) between bearing assemblies (3) and (9) and outer plates (1) and (11).Each idler turns on a hardened shaft (17) and center thrust bearings (6). The center flange of the shaft takes the side thrust of idler (19). Side movement or end clearance of the shaft can not be adjusted. The ends of the idler shafts are fastened in bearing assemblies (3) and (9). Plate assemblies (14) and (15) give support to the bearing assemblies. Springs in the bearing assemblies hold the plates down against the top of track roller frame (20).
FRONT IDLER
1. Outer plate. 2. Shims. 3. Bearing assembly. 4. Duo-Cone seal. 5. Bushing. 6. Bearings. 7. Bushing. 8. Duo-Cone seal. 9. Bearing assembly. 10. Shims. 11. Outer plate. 12. Fill plug. 13. Spring assemblies (four). 14. Plate assembly. 15. Plate assembly. 16. Wear strip. 17. Idler shaft. 18. Wear strip. 19. Front idler. 20. Track roller frame.Front Idler Lubrication
To add lubricant, remove plug (12) and install 5M2080 Nozzle. Lubricant is sent through the 5M2080 Nozzle into the center passage. The lubricant fills the space around the shaft. When the space is full, the pressure of the oil causes the air and extra lubricant to go out the relief threads in the nozzle. When the air is removed from the lubricant, remove the nozzle and install plug (12). Tighten the plug to a torque of 125 15 lb. ft. (170 20 N m).If lubricant is added with the idler removed from the machine, shaft (17) must be in a horizontal position.Recoil Spring And Mechanisms For Track Adjustment
The recoil spring is normally in compression and held between a bracket and stops on the track roller frame and does not put pressure against the track. Later machines have two recoil springs, but the operation is the same as a machine with one recoil spring. If foreign material gets between the track and its components (rollers, idler, sprocket) the front idler will move the recoil rod to the rear. This puts the recoil spring in compression and prevents too much tension on the track.Compression of recoil spring (2) is kept to a minimum by the sleeve on the recoil spring bolt or stud. Recoil spring nut (1) is used to hold spring compression when the spring assembly is to be removed. Nut (1) has no other purpose.Screw Type Track Adjuster
