6. When storing suction hose (1), coil the hose in the storage box and install the storage box cover.7. Close the access door.Oil Filter Inspection
Inspect Used Filter for Debris
Element with debris.Use a 4C5084 Filter Cutter (formerly 6V7905) to cut the filter element open. Spread pleats apart and inspect the element metal and other debris. An excessive amount of debris in the filter element can indicate a possible failure.Use a magnet to differentiate between ferrous and non-ferrous metals found in the filter element.Ferrous metals can indicate wear on the steel and cast iron parts.Non-ferrous metals can indicate wear on the aluminum parts of the engine, such as main, rod and/or turbocharger bearings.Due to normal wear and friction, it is not uncommon to find small amounts of debris in the filter element. Consult your Caterpillar dealer to arrange for further analysis if an excessive amount of debris is found.Use of an oil filter element not recommended by Caterpillar can result in severe engine damage to engine bearings, crankshaft and other parts. This can result in larger particles in unfiltered oil entering the lubricating system and causing damage.Bucket Clearance (If Equipped with a Bucket Capable of Shim Adjustment)
Inspect/Adjust
When performing this adjustment, put the hydraulic activation control lever in the LOCKED position and stop the engine.
Improperly adjusted bucket clearance could cause galling on the contact surfaces of the bucket and stick, resulting in excessive noise and/or damaged O-ring seals.
The bucket linkage clearance of this machine can be adjusted by shimming. If the bucket-to-stick gap becomes excessive, adjust to the specification shown below. Two different type shims of 0.5 mm (.02 in) and 1.0 mm (.04 in) thicknesses are used at location (B).
Bucket linkage adjustment area.1. Position the machine on a level surface and lower the bucket to the ground.2. Slowly operate the swing control lever until the stick boss and left bucket boss are in full face to face contact (no gap), as shown in the following illustration. This is to help determine the total clearance of stick-to-bucket connection.3. Place the hydraulic activation control lever in the LOCKED position and stop the engine. 4. Measure distance (A) which is the existing total clearance.5. Determine the thickness of shim (s) that needs to be removed from shim group (1) installed at location (B), by calculating as follows. Thickness of shims to be removed:Total clearance (A)-[0.5 to 1.0 mm (.02 to .04 in)]6. Remove an appropriate number of shim (s), meeting the above calculation. Be sure to use a minimum of three 0.5 mm (.02 in) shims. To remove shims, remove bolts (4), washers (5) and plate (3).7. After correct number of shims have been removed, install plate (3), washers (5) and bolts (4) with pin (2) aligned with pin hole. Tighten bolts (4) to a torque of 460 60 N m (340 44 lb ft).8. After installation, make sure that clearance (A) is still correct.Boom Base
Lubricate the Fitting
1. Place the attachments in the servicing position. 2. Vent plug (1) and
