Attach a hoist to differential case assembly (9). Place differential case assembly (9) in position in bevel gear (10) .
Install the washers and the bolts that attach differential case assembly (9) to bevel gear (10). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 130 30 N m (95 22 lb ft). Each bolt should then be turned an additional 120 degrees 10 degrees.

Heat bearing cone (11) to a maximum temperature of 135°C (275°F). Install bearing cone (11) on the differential case assembly.

Install thrust washer (12) and gear thrust washer (13) in the differential case assembly.

Install differential bevel gear (14) in the differential case assembly.

Install four sleeve bearings (16), differential pinion gears (17), and washers (18) on spider (15) .
Install the spider assembly in the differential case assembly.

Install thrust washer (19) and gear thrust washer (20) in the upper half of the differential case assembly.

Install differential bevel gear (22) on the spider assembly. Refer to Illustration 11.
Install differential case assembly (21) over the spider assembly.
Install the sixteen washers and the bolts that attach the upper case to the lower case. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 270 40 N m (200 30 lb ft).
Heat the small bearing cone to a maximum temperature of 135°C (275°F). Install the bearing on the differential case assembly.

Place carrier assembly (23) in the vertical position on Tooling (A) .
Install bearing cap (25), adjustment lock nut (26), and bearing cup (24) .Note: Two different adjustment lock nuts (13) are used in the differential. Use Tooling (F) in order to install 8R-2857 Adjustment Lock Nut. Use Tooling (G) in order to install 8R-2861 Adjustment Lock Nut .
The adjustment lock nut is turned approximately five times. Use tooling (C) or tooling (D). This is the starting point for the adjustment of the differential and bevel gear.

Attach a hoist to differential (27). Place differential (27) in position in the carrier assembly, as shown.

Install bearing cup (28), bearing cap (29), and adjustment lock nut (30) .

Install two 3/4" - 10 NC guide pins in the carrier assembly.
Install shims (31). The required thickness of the shims is shown on the pinion shaft.Note: The thickness of shims (31) is a starting point for the adjustment of the differential and bevel gear.
Install the O-ring seal in pinion housing (32) .
Attach a hoist to the pinion housing. Place the pinion housing on the guide pins.
Install the washers and the bolts that hold the pinion housing to the carrier assembly. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 530 70 N m (390 50 lb ft).
Adjust the differential and bevel gear. Refer to Specifications, SENR5726, "Differential and Bevel Gear".End By: Install the differential and bevel gear. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Differential and Bevel Gear (Front) - Install" for the front differential. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Differential and Bevel Gear (Rear) - Install" for the rear differential.
