Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Do not turn the crankshaft or the camshaft while the camshaft gear is removed. If the rear gear group is not correctly timed during installation, interference can occur between the pistons and the valves, resulting in damage to the engine.
Care must be used when removing or installing the camshaft. Do not damage the finished surfaces of the camshaft or the camshaft bearings.
Ensure that the camshaft and camshaft bearings are thoroughly clean. Lubricate the camshaft lobes with a 50/50 mixture of Tooling (C) and clean engine oil. Apply a thin coat of clean engine oil on the camshaft bearings.

Install Tooling (A) on the cylinder head (16) at three locations.
Use two technicians to install the camshaft. Use Tooling (B) to assist in aligning the camshaft with the camshaft bearings. Carefully slide the camshaft into the cylinder head. Keep the camshaft level while the camshaft is being installed in the cylinder head. The weight of the camshaft is approximately 35 kg (77 lb).
Remove Tooling (A) from the cylinder head.

Install sealing plate (14), adapter assembly (15), and new O-ring seals. Install bolts (13).Note: Ensure that the O-ring seals remain in position on sealing plate (14) during installation.

Install damper (12) and bolts (11).
Tighten the bolts to a torque of 240 40 N m (177 30 lb ft). Tighten the bolts in the following sequence: 1, 4, 2, 5, 3, 6, 1, 4.

Install cover (9) and elbow (10).

Install new O-ring seals and sealing plate (8).Note: Ensure that the O-ring seals remain in position on sealing plate (8) during installation.

Install adapter assembly (7), thrust plate (6), and bolts (5).

Install gear (4). Install bolts (3).
Tighten the bolts to a torque of 240 40 N m (177 30 lb ft). Tighten the bolts in the following sequence: 1, 4, 2, 5, 3, 6, 1, 4.

Install pump drive (2) and bolts (1).
Fill the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".End By:
Install the valve cover base.
Install the rocker arms and the rocker shafts.
