The go/no-go gauge indicates correct engagement of the retainer ring.

The go/no-go gauge indicates incorrect engagement of the retainer ring.
Check the engagement of the retainer ring. Place go/no-go gauge (1) into the inner diameter of the retainer ring. If gauge (1) fits flat against the wall of the retainer, the retainer ring is installed properly. Do not perform the rework procedure. In Illustration 3, gauge (1) indicates that the retainer ring is correctly installed. In Illustration 4, gauge (1) indicates that the retainer ring is incorrectly installed. If the retainer ring is incorrectly installed, proceed with the rework procedure.

Pound the retainer ring with seal driver (2) until the retainer ring is flush with the wall of the pump body.Note: Hit seal driver (2) approximately five times with a plastic hammer.

Mark the ends of the retainer ring with a marker in order to record the starting position of the ring. Refer to Illustration 6.

Use 5 mm (0.20 inch) punch (3) in order to engage the retainer ring. Punch (3) should be approximately 30° above horizontal. Refer to Illustration 8. Gently tap the end of the ring in order to move the ring 4 mm (0.16 inch).Note: Ensure that the end of the punch is well rounded and blunt. If the end is not blunt, the punch will not engage the retainer ring.Note: Do not hit the ring hard. A slight force will move the ring.

Gently tap the other end of the retainer ring in order to move the ring back to the original starting position. Refer to Illustration 9. The ends of the ring should line up with the marks that were made in Step 3.

Recheck the engagement of the retainer ring with go/no-go gauge (1). If the rework procedure was performed successfully, the gauge should be positioned flat against the wall of the retainer. Refer to Illustration 10.
