Place the key start switch and the disconnect switch in the OFF position.
Measure the resistance between contact C (252-YL) and contact D (262-GRN) at the connectors of the sensors.Expected Result:The resistance measurement is 120 12 ohms.Results:
YES - The resistance measurement is 120 12 ohms. Proceed to Test Step 6.
NO - The resistance measurement is NOT 120 12 ohms. Proceed to Test Step 5.Test Step 5. CHECK THE TERMINATION RESISTOR
The key start switch and the disconnect switch remain in the OFF position.
Disconnect the 3-pin connector from both of the termination resistors.
Measure the resistance between contact A and contact B for both of the resistors. Note the resistance.Expected Result:The resistance measurements are 120 12 ohms.Results:
YES - The resistance measurements are 120 12 ohms. Reconnect the resistors. Proceed to Test Step 6.
NO - One or both resistance measurements is NOT 120 12 ohms.Repair: Replace the termination resistors that did not measure 120 12 ohms.STOPTest Step 6. CHECK IF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE REMAINS
Reconnect all of the connections for the harnesses.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the "ON" position.Expected Result:The diagnostic code is no longer active.Results:
YES - The diagnostic code is no longer active. The initial diagnostic code was probably caused by a poor electrical connection or a short at one of the harness connectors that was disconnected and then reconnected.Repair: Resume normal machine operation.STOP
NO - The diagnostic code is still active.Repair: Contact your technical communicator for a possible consultation with Caterpillar.STOP
