Travel Mode Engine Speed Management component connectionsThe Travel Mode Engine Speed Management (TESM) enables the Machine ECM to reduce the speed of the engine when the machine is traveling. This function is intended to reduce fuel consumption, noise emissions, and engine power losses road travel. For models powered by C6.6 engines, TESM allows automatic engine speed reduction to Engine Speed Dial 7. For the M315D powered by the C4.4 engine, TESM allows automatic engine speed reduction to Engine Speed Dial 9.Note: TESM is not available on the M313D.The Machine ECM and the Engine ECM communicate the status of the required machine conditions over the J1939 Data Link to control the TESM function. The following machine conditions must be present before the control modules will active the TESM function.
Machine travel must be detected.
The Generator Enable switch (if installed) must be in the OFF position.
For machines equipped with C6.6 engines, the Engine Speed Dial position must be at either position 8, 9, or 10.
For the M315D equipped with a C4.4 engine, the Engine Speed Dial position must be at position 10.The Machine ECM will have activation control of the TESM function. The Engine ECM will communicate the position status of the Engine Speed Dial to the Machine ECM.When the machine conditions are correct, the Machine ECM will activate the TESM function. Once the function is activated, the Engine ECM reduces the engine speed. The speed reduction is a software defined engine speed sufficient to support the travel function power requirements.If one of the machine conditions listed above changes when the TESM function is active, the Machine ECM will disable the function. The Engine ECM will control the engine speed according to the current Engine Speed Dial position.If the Engine Speed Dial is faulted or if the Back UpMode is active, the Machine ECM will disable the TESM function.
