REPLACE WASHERS AND BOLTS ON FAN DRIVE PILLOW BLOCK, 3500 Series Industrial And Generator Set Engines, 1359, PI7096 U-54 AU-45 B-20 C-49.1 E-33 O-40 SEE JULY 6, 1984 Problem Some 3500 Series Engines with a radiator-mounted fan drive use washers and bolts on the pillow block that can yield and/or break. The washers were not hardened, and grade 5 bolts were used instead of the harder grade 8 bolts. Hardened washers and grade 8 bolts are now used in production. See Illustration 1. ILLUSTRATION 1 (SEE ILLUSTRATION) Affected Engines And New Parts Needed Engines within the listed serial number ranges having radiators with radiator-mounted fan drives are candidates for this program. Further inspection of the part number and date code on the radiator identification tag will have to be made, as explained under "Action Requesed."
