Guidelines For Reusable Parts, SEBF8242, "Verification Of Connecting Rod Eye Bushing Retention".Description of Change: The connecting rod assembly has a new rod eye sleeve bearing. The new bearing has a 0.03 mm (.001 in) larger outside diameter. This provides an increased press fit in the rod eye bore. The inside diameter of the rod eye bore has not changed. This change will help prevent the rod eye sleeve bearing from rotating. This will result in increased service life for the connecting rod assembly. Adaptable To: The new 118-1655 Sleeve Bearing is a direct replacement for the former 7C-8609 Sleeve Bearing in the 101-3281 Connecting Rod Assembly. The former sleeve bearing is canceled. Connecting rod assemblies that have factory installed 118-1655 Sleeve Bearings can be identified by checking the part number on the rod cap. The part number is on the side opposite the pin and bearing tab. If the part number ends with a "/02" and up, the connecting rod assembly includes the new 118-1655 Sleeve Bearing. Earlier connecting rod assemblies (part number ends with a "/00" or "/01") can have the new bearing installed at the time of rod reconditioning. See the References when reconditioning the connecting rod. When installing a new 118-1655 Sleeve Bearing, no peel back of the steel back of the bearing is allowed.
