Transmission Control
Transmission shift lever (1) is in the console in front of and to the right of the operator. There is a Reverse, Neutral, and First through Eighth speeds. The operator can make a selection of the range of speeds he needs by the position he puts the shift lever in. The transmission has a downshift inhibitor that prevents a downshift if a downshift would cause an engine overspeed condition.
TRANSMISSION CONTROL
1. Shift lever.Retarder
RETARDER CONTROL
2. Retarder lever.Retarder lever (2) is on the right hand side of the steering column. This lever activates the drive axle service brakes and gives modulation of the application of them. The maximum pneumatic pressure available for the drive axle brakes, by use of the retarder lever, is not as great as is available by application of the brakes by the service brake pedal.Service Brakes
The service brakes are made up of pneumatically controlled front brakes and rear drive axle brakes. There is a switch (3) on the dash panel that can turn off the front brakes so that only the drive axle brakes are activated by service brake pedal (4).
FRONT BRAKE CONTROL
3. Switch.
CONTROL PEDALS
4. Service brake pedal. 5. Governor control pedal.Governor Control
The governor on the 768C and 769C has pneumatic control. Governor foot pedal (5) is installed on an air valve. Movement of foot pedal (5) gives modulated pneumatic control of the governor. This system has a separate switch to shut off the engine.Engine Shut-Off Switch
Engine shut-off switch (6) is on the same panel with the disconnect switch, behind and to the left hand side of the operator's seat. The switch is a momentary contact toggle switch. The switch must be moved up to stop the engine. This activates a solenoid which moves the rack to the OFF position. When the shut-off switch is released, after the engine is stopped, it goes back to the normal position.
ENGINE SHUT-OFF SWITCH
6. Switch.Steering Gear Group
The steering gear group has steering wheel (7), a steering column, the steering valve, and the mounting hardware. The steering wheel is connected to the steering shaft and the steering shaft connects to the steering valve.
STEERING WHEEL
7. Steering wheel.Hoist
Hoist lever (8) controls the operation of the hoist cylinders which raise and lower the truck bed. If the vehicle has the attachment transmission neutralizer, movement of the hoist lever, with the transmission in reverse, activates the neutralizer circuit, which shifts the transmission to neutral.
