At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure.Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the filler cap slowly in order to relieve pressure.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contamination of the hydraulic system with foreign material will reduce the service life of the hydraulic system components.To prevent contaminants from entering the hydraulic system, always plug or cap the lines, fittings, or hoses as they are disconnected. Cover any disassembled components and clean them properly before assembly.Clean the hydraulic system properly after any major component exchange or especially after a component failure, to remove any contamination.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Start the machine. Turn the tractor so that the tractor is at a right angle to the scraper.
Remove the power train guard. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Power Train Guard (Transmission) - Remove and Install".
Remove the drive shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Drive Shaft- Remove and Install".
Remove the pump for the hydraulic system and the steering system. Refer to Machine Systems Disassembly and Assembly, "Pump (Hydraulic and Steering) - Remove".
Remove the pump for the cushion-hitch. Refer to Machine Systems Disassembly and Assembly, "Pump (Cushion-Hitch) - Remove".
Put identification marks on all lines, hoses, wires and tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses and tubes. This helps prevent fluid loss and contamination of the fluid system.

Remove drain plugs (1). Drain the transmission oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the transmission is 72 L (19 US gal). Remove drain plug (2). Drain the oil from the differential case into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the differential case is 132 L (35 US gal).

Disconnect tube assemblies (3). Remove bolt (4) and disconnect harness assembly (5) .

Disconnect harness assembly (6) and remove the clip. Disconnect harness assembly (7). Disconnect harness assembly (8) and remove the clip.

Remove nuts (9) and reposition valve (10). Remove hose assembly (11) .
Disconnect hose assemblies (14) and (16). Remove bolts (13) and reposition manifold (12) .
Disconnect hose assembly (15) .

Fasten Tooling (A), Tooling (B), Tooling (C), and a suitable lifting device to the transfer gears, the torque converter, and the transmission, as shown. The weight of the transfer gears, the torque converter, and the transmission as a unit is approximately 1134 kg (2500 lb).

Note: Do not remove nuts (20) .
Disconnect hose assembly (17). Remove nuts (18) and bolts
