The final drive compartment can be under pressure. To prevent possible personal injury, use extra caution when fill plug (2) or the drain plug is removed. Loosen the fill plug only enough to release any pressure. After all pressure in the final drive compartment is released, remove fill plug (2).
1. Move the machine until the drain plug is at the bottom. Loosen fill plug (2) only enough to release the pressure in the final drives. Remove the drain plug from hole (3), and drain the oil from the final drive compartment.2. Remove the nuts and washers that hold cover (1) in place. Install two 1/2"-13 NC forcing screws in cover (1). Tighten the forcing screws evenly to loosen the cover from the final drive. Use two persons, and remove the cover. The weight of the cover is 27 kg (60 lb.).
Do not let the inside spacer (8) fall into the final drive compartment when the axle is removed.
3. Install a 3/8"-16 NC forged eyebolt (4) in the end of the axle. Pull the axle out far enough to fasten a hoist. Fasten a hoist, and remove the axle, spacers, spring and O-ring seal as a unit. Weight of the right axle is 27 kg (60 lb.). Weight of the left axle is 46 kg (101 lb.). 4. Remove snap ring (10), sun gear (7), steel spacer (6), O-ring seal (9), spring (5) and brass spacer (8) from the axle.Install Axles
1. Install brass spacer (1) on the axle with the flat side in as shown. Install spring (2), O-ring seal (3) and steel spacer (4) with the flat side out as shown. Fasten a hoist, and put the axle in the axle housing. 2. Use a piece of pipe (5) or tool (A) to put the axle in alignment with the spline in the differential. Be sure O-ring seal (3) is inside spacer (1). 3. Install sun gear (6) and snap ring (7) on the axle.
Be sure the flat surface on the end of the planet shafts are away from the sun gear before cover (8) is installed.
4. Install the O-ring seal on cover (8). Install cover (8) on the final drive. Fill the final drive with oil to the correct level. See the Maintenance Guide.
