(9) Disks The parking brake is engaged through a compression of a series of plates (3) and disks (9). The disks are splined to the splined shaft (5). The plates are fixed to the front housing (4) with two rods (1).The brake housing contains TO-4 oil. The fan pump provides the oil to release the parking brake.When the parking brake is engaged, a chamber behind the piston (8) is open to the hydraulic tank. The springs (7) move the primary plate (2) against the piston (8) and against the disks (9) and plates (3). This action compresses the disks and plates, so the splined shaft cannot rotate.When the parking brake is released, the parking brake solenoid directs oil into the chamber behind the piston (8). This oil acts against the piston, in opposition to the springs (7). The pressure acting against the piston overcomes the spring force, and the piston moves the primary plate (2). This movement releases the compressive force on the disks (9) and plates (3).
