Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

The suction screen (3) for the transmission is located at the rear of the transmission.
Park the machine on level ground. Lower the bowl. Apply the parking brake. Shut off the engine.
Clean the area around the housing (3) for the screen.
Remove the drain plug (1) . Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.
Remove the bolts (2) for the cover of the screen.
Remove the cover (3) .
Remove the screen. Clean the screen in nonflammable solvent. Inspect the screen for damage. Replace the screen if the screen is damaged.
Install the screen. Inspect the seal for the cover. Replace the seal if the seal is damaged.
Clean the cover. Install the cover.
Clean the plug. Install the plug.
Start the engine.
Check the area around the screen housing for leaks.
Check the transmission oil level. Add oil if oil is needed.
Shut off the engine.
