After the step 16, start the engine and raise the body far enough so the ends of the tailgate raise above the end of the body. Then turn off the engine.
Note: Do not work under the body as it is not supported. Do not work under the sling paths of any of the tailgate components.

Start the engine and lover the body. Use the lifting equipment on the tailgate plate to control the lowering of the tailgate to the body. Tune off the engine.

Lower the body prior to measuring the clearance between body and the tailgate. On achieving 10 to 15 mm (0.4 to 0.6 inch) clearance between body and the tailgate torque bolts (1) to standard torque value.
check the runout of the bottom of the tailgate to the lower edge of the body. A maximum of 8.0 mm (0.31 inch) of deviation in parallel is permissible. To adjust the parallelism of the components, remove or add Shims (12) between Pivots (13) and the body. A maximum of 3 shims can be used on one side. If two or three shims are used, then replace the 7X-2599 (20) with 8T-6385 Bolt (20). After adjustment of the shims is complete, fully tighten the bolts to 240 40 N m (177 30 lb ft).

The distance should be 5 3 mm (0.2 0.1 inch). If the distance is not correct then adjust the number of Shims (7) under Buffers (8). A maximum of two Shims (7) are allowed under each Buffer (8).
Note: When adjusting the shims, ensure that the weight of the tailgate is supported the lifting equipment.
Illustration 28 g06326914start the engine and raise and lower the body to check of when the tailgate starts to lift. The tailgate is supposed to lift at about 4 degrees of body tip. Ensure that the tailgate lifts evenly on both sides of the body. To change the lengths of the tailgate chains, so one side is longer the other swap the long Link (28) with the short Link (21) on the opposite side, so that there is two long links on one side and two short links on the other side.
