Fabricate seven new counterweight plates. Refer to Illustration 1 for the correct dimensions.Note: The nominal thickness for the counterweight plates is 140 mm (5.5 inch). Measure the existing counterweights that are on the machine. Verify that the existing counterweights are close to the nominal thickness. Adjust the required thickness of the counterweight plates in order to match the thickness of the existing counterweights.

Put the counterweight plates in position, as shown. Weld the counterweight plate to the existing counterweight.
Reinstall the modified counterweights.Note: An increase in the counterweight capacity will require an increase in the pressure setting for the counterweight control valve. Refer to Service Magazine, SEPD0573, 09 April 2001, "A New Setting For The Counterweight Relief Valve Is Now Used".Adaptable To: The new 201-5552 Counterweight Plate Assembly is effective with 572R (S/N: 2HZ396-UP; AAC323-UP) Pipelayers. The new counterweight plates are adaptable to 572R (S/N: 2HZ1-395; AAC1-322) Pipelayers.
