Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the Torque Converter.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Disconnect harness assembly (2) and remove the cable straps.
Remove bolts (1) and the washers. Remove relief valve assembly (3) and the gasket.

Remove bolts (7). Remove cover (6) and O-ring seal (5).
Remove screen (4).

Remove bolts (9) and the washers. Remove retarder control valve (8) and the O-ring seal.

Remove bolts (10) and (10A) and the washers. Note the location of bolts (10) and (10A) for assembly purposes.
Remove oil pan assembly (11).

Remove six O-ring seals (12).

Remove tube assemblies (13) and (14).

Remove bolts (16) and the washers. Remove housing assembly (15).

Remove O-ring seal (17).

Remove bolts (19) and the washers. Remove gear pump (18).

Attach a suitable lifting device to torque converter housing assembly (20). The weight of torque converter housing assembly (20) is approximately 226 kg (500 lb).
Remove bolts (22), (23) and the washers. Remove nuts (21) and the washers.
Remove torque converter housing assembly (20).

Remove gasket (25). If necessary, remove studs (24).
