Start by:a. Remove the Axle Shaft.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Attach Tooling (A) and suitable lifting device to the final drive planetary carrier.
Remove bolts (1).

Install Tooling (C) in wheel assembly (2). Tighten Tooling (C) evenly to loosen the final drive planetary carrier.

Attach a suitable lifting device to the axle shaft. Install the axle shaft with the sun gear in the final drive planetary carrier.Note: The axle shaft is used to hold the final drive planetary carrier level during the removal from the ring gear.
Remove drain plug (3) to prevent damage.
Use Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to remove final drive planetary carrier (4). The weight of final drive planetary carrier (4) is approximately 280 kg (617 lb). Remove final drive planetary carrier (4) and the O-ring seal from the outside diameter of final drive planetary carrier (4).

Remove bolts (5) and retainers (6).

Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to ring gear (7). The weight of ring gear (7) is approximately 109 kg (240 lb). Remove ring gear (7).Installation Procedure

Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to ring gear (7). The weight of ring gear (7) is approximately 109 kg (240 lb). Install ring gear (7).

Install retainers (6) and bolts (5).
Install the O-ring seal to the outside diameter of final drive planetary carrier

Install Tooling (D) into the wheel assembly (2).
Attach a suitable lifting device to the axle shaft. Install the axle shaft with the sun gear in final drive planetary carrier (4).Note: The axle shaft is used to hold the final drive planetary carrier level during the removal from the ring gear.
Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to final drive planetary carrier (4). The weight of final drive planetary carrier (4) is approximately 280 kg (617 lb). Install final drive planetary carrier (4) and remove the axle shaft.Note: Carefully slide final drive planetary carrier (4) into the ring gear.

Install bolts (1). Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 400 60 N m (295 44 lb ft). Turn bolts (1) to an extra angle of 120 10 degrees.
Install drain plug (3).
End by:a. Install the Axle Shaft.
