General Tips
Check these items when troubleshooting:
Check for a warning or error message that indicates a problem. Use the information from Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Flashing Messages", and Troubleshooting, "Full Screen Messages" to understand errors and warnings
Check that all devices in the system are receiving power. Use the Information from Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Common Problems" to quickly check the status of the easily accessible devices.
Check that all devices in the system are communicating. Use the information from Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Checking the System Diagnostics" to make sure all the required devices have been detected.
Check that all devices have the correct firmware versions loaded. Use the information from Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Checking the System Diagnostics" to check.
Check that all connections are secure and undamaged.
Determine what the steps were that led to the problem.
Determine if the problem can be repeated.Before contacting the Caterpillar dealer, note the following:
The GPS receiver software version
The AccuGrade software version number that appears on the "Setup Menu - Configuration" dialog or from the "Log_<Serial Number>_<Date>.txt" file.
The AccuGrade serial number from the "Log_<Serial Number>_<Date>.txt" file.GPS Troubleshooting Tips
In order to quickly access the GPS components of an AccuGrade System, check the following:Use the information from Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Checking the System Diagnostics" to check the following:
Are the GPS receivers connected?
Do the GPS receivers have the correct software loaded?
Are the GPS receivers reporting an RTK (Fixed) position status?
Is the data link operating effectively?Note: The left data link should be operating with less than 0.3 second latency and an integrity of about 90%.Note: The right data link should be operating with less than 0.3 second latency and an integrity of about 100%.Use the information from Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Checking the System Diagnostics" to check the following:
Are the GPS receivers getting power?
Are the GPS receivers tracking four or more satellites?
Is the left GPS receiver processing CMRs from the base?
Is the right GPS receiver processing 10 Hz CMRs from the left receiver?Use the information from Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Common Problems" to check the following:
Is the data radio getting power?
Is the data radio synchronized?Observe the site and work area, and check the following:
Do you have an unobstructed view of the sky to within about 10° of the horizon across the entire work area? If some or all of your work area has a limited view of the sky, ask your site manager what is the best time for you to work.
Are you working near any large reflective surface that could cause the GPS signal to "ghost" (multipathing)?Ask the site manager to check the operation of the GPS base station. Are the GPS receiver and base data radio operating correctly?Ask your site manager to check the operation of any data radio repeaters on the site. Is data being relayed correctly?Screen Snaps
