Introduction
The hydraulic oil in this system is SAE 10. If the hydraulic oil becomes contaminated, premature component failure could result. Contaminated hydraulic oil can also contribute to overheating.Use the following procedure in order to sample the hydraulic oil.Required Tools

Drive the machine to a smooth, horizontal surface.

Move travel direction switch (1) to the NEUTRAL position.
Rotate propulsion speed dial (2) counterclockwise to the MINIMUM position.

Move parking brake lever (3) to the ON position.

Move throttle control lever (4) to the LOW-IDLE position.

Move lock (5) out of the way, and move screed lift lever (6) into the FLOAT position. Lower the screed onto the screed locks or onto the ground.

Unlock latch (8), and open engine compartment cover (9).

Engage the lock (10) on the strut supporting the engine compartment cover (9).

Slowly turn cap (11) counterclockwise to release any pressure in hydraulic oil tank. Remove cap.
Insert the hose (C3) from the tooling (C) into the hydraulic oil tank. Extract an oil sample.
Install cap (11). Turn the cap clockwise until the cap is hand tight.

Remove hydraulic oil filter (12). Install a new hydraulic filter. For the procedure to change the hydraulic oil filter, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Charge Filter".
Disengage the lock on strut (10). Close engine compartment cover (9), and lock latches (8).
Check hydraulic filter (12) for foreign material.
Bronze-colored particles, shiny steel particles, and/or aluminum particles indicate pump or motor failure.
Rubber particles indicate a seal failure or indicate a hose failure. Note: If any of these particles are found in the hydraulic filter element, all components of the hydraulic oil system must be cleaned. Do not use any damaged parts.
