Schematic of the Right Brake Pedal Position SensorThis diagnostic code is for the right brake pedal position sensor. This diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM reads the voltage of the sensor supply circuit (G745-RD) as above normal range. The right brake pedal position sensor will not operate. The output frequency of the position sensor is approximately 500 Hz. The value of the sensor duty cycle is approximately 50% in the depressed position. The duty cycle of the signal increases as the brake pedal is pressed. The value of the sensor duty cycle is approximately 90% in the pressed position. The duty cycle of the signal decreases as the brake pedal is moved from the pressed position to depressed. The value of the sensor duty cycle is approximately 10% in the depressed position.The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The signal circuit (G745-RD) to the sensor is shorted to the +battery.
The ECM has failed. ECM failure is unlikely.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO THE + BATTERY.
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness (J1 and J2) from the ECM.
At machine harness connectors for the ECM, measure the resistance from J2-32 to J1-13. Expected Result:The resistance should be greater than 5000 ohms for each measurement.Results:
OK - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms for each measurement. The machine harness is correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The resistance is not greater than 5000 ohms for each measurement.Repair: The short is between the circuit with the low resistance measurement and wire G745-RD. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK IF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE IS STILL ACTIVE.
Clean the contacts of the harness connectors.
Reconnect all harness connectors.
Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
Operate the machine.
Determine if CID 1328 FMI 03 is present.Expected Result:CID 1328 FMI 03 is present.Results:
YES - CID 1328 FMI 03 is present.Repair: Exit this procedure and perform the diagnostic code procedure again. If the problem persists, the ECM may have failed. Prior to replacing an ECM, always contact your dealership Technical Engine Technical Communicator for possible consultation with Caterpillar. This consultation may greatly reduce repair time. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, replace the power train ECM. See the Troubleshooting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".STOP
NO - CID 1328 FMI 03 is not present.Repair: The diagnostic code is NOT present. The diagnostic code does not exist at this time. The initial problem was probably caused by a poor electrical connection or a short at one of the harness connectors that was disconnected and reconnected. Resume normal machine operation.STOP
