Start By:
Remove the hammer tool. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7662, "Tool (Hammer) - Remove and Install".Note: The lower tool bushing can be removed with the hammer in the housing.

If the hammer is in the housing, remove two plugs (1). There is one plug on each side of the housing.

Remove split pin (2) and retaining pin (3) from the head.

Install tooling (A) .

Ensure that plate (B) is positioned properly in the bore of lower bushing (4) .
Remove lower bushing (4). The approximate weight of lower bushing (4) is 34 kg (75 lb).

If equipped, remove O-ring seal (5) .
Remove lip seal (6) .Installation Procedure
Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause damage after prolonged operation. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new Caterpillar parts for replacement.
Inspect the inner diameter of the bushing for wear. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7662, "Tool Bushing (Lower) - Inspect / Replace".

Install a new lip seal (6). Do not replace O-ring (5).

Refer to Illustration 7. Apply 4C-5598 High Temperature Anti-Seize (8) to the bore of front head (7). This will help in the prevention of corrosion and seizures.
Slide lower bushing (4) into front head (7). The approximate weight of lower bushing (4) is 34 kg (75 lb).
Align the notch of the bushing with the bore for the retaining pin. If the bushing is used, align the notch on the newer side of the bushing with the bore for the retaining pin.

Coat retaining pin (3) and split pin (2) with 4C-5598 High Temperature Anti-Seize. Install retaining pin (3) and split pin (2) .

Install two plugs (1) into the housing.
