Installation Procedure

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Ensure that all components are clean and free from damage. If necessary, replace any components that are worn or damaged.
If Tooling (A) is not installed, install Tooling (A). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Rocker Shaft and Pushrod - Remove" for the correct procedure.

Sequence for tightening the bolts for the rocker shaft assembly
If necessary, install dowel (7) (not shown).

Failure to ensure that ALL valve bridges are correctly seated onto the valve stems will cause interference between the pistons and the valves, resulting in damage to the engine.
Apply clean engine oil to valve bridges (3). Install the valve bridges to the valve stems in the correct orientation, refer to Illustration 3. Note: If the valve bridges were previously used, the valve bridges must be installed in the original location.
Apply clean engine oil to both ends of push rods (6). Install the push rods into the cylinder head. Ensure that the push rods are seated correctly in the cups of the lifters Note: If the push rods have previously been used, the push rods must be installed in the original location.
Position the assembly of rocker shaft (5) from the cylinder head. Ensure that the assembly of rocker shaft is correctly installed into dowel (7) (not shown).
Install bolts (4) to the assembly of rocker shaft (5). Tighten the bolts in the numerical sequence that is shown in Illustration 2 to a torque of 10 N m (89 lb in). Note: Ensure that the rocker arms are seated in the cups of the push rods.

Remove Tooling (A) from the cylinder block.
Install new O-ring seal (1) onto plug (2).
Install plug (2) into the cylinder block. Tighten the plug to a torque of 30 N m (266 lb in).

Remove Tooling (B) from the cylinder block.
Install new O-ring seal (1A) onto plug (2A).
Install plug (2A). Tighten the plug to a torque of 25 N m (221 lb in). End By:
Install the valve mechanism cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Valve Mechanism Cover - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
