TRACK-TYPE TRACTOR,
Information:
Working with Special Tools
All equipment mounted on the front linkage and that features the following operating characteristics is considered as special tooling:
Repeated operating cycles
Used only in the directions of the tracks
Compacting and vibrating purpose
Equipment with a weight greater than 1200 kg (2645.5 lb)Note: For instance, tools with a sleeper-changing head, a clearing beam, a compacting head, or a tamping unit, are considered to be special tools.Work undertaken with special tooling requires the upper frame to be at an angle of 180 degrees.Note: Work on the front end of the machine (rotation of 0 degrees) with special tooling is prohibited.
Contact your Cat dealer regarding any questions relating to tools not included in the list of adaptable tools on the machine. Refer to this Operation and Maintenance Manual, Railway Precautions for additional information about adaptable tools on the machine.
Towing Capacities on Rail (Germany and Switzerland)
When traveling on rails with UIC-type wagons, follow limitations as stated in the table below:
Table 1
Slope
Range Number
of
Wagon
Axles Maximum Towed or Propelled Weight (tons)(1)(2)
At Maximum Speed (km/h)
10 km/h 16 km/h 20 km/h
Level rail to 10‰ 8 220 130 100
10‰ to 25‰ 80 40 30
25‰ to 40‰ 45 20 10
(1) Maximum weight includes wagon weight.
(2) Towing capacities are determined for a machine on a dry straight track without cant or crossings. For further information about rail operation with UIC-type wagon, refer to this Operation and Maintenance Manual, Rail Operating Techniques and review the "Rail Operation with UIC Trailer" section.Operations with a Ballast Clearing Beam
In the event of a ballast clearing beam being used, follow the operating and safety instructions below:
The guiding trolley is mandatory and may not be removed or changed.
The depth stop must be in place.
The clearing height, and therefore the depth stops, must be inspected daily and comply with the recommendations specific to the work undertaken.
Use of the tooling when the upper frame is at 0 degrees is prohibited. Swing the upper frame to 180 degrees to work with the tool.Working with a Hydraulic Hammer
Operating Precautions
Selection of a hydraulic hammer must be done with extra care. Use of a hydraulic hammer not recommended by Caterpillar could result in structural damage to the machine.
