Generator Power Inverter ECM
The following is a list of Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) associated with the SR Power Inverter transistors that are monitored by the Generator Power Inverter ECM.Note: If multiple (3 or more) Phase Power Transistor faults are triggered at the same time, the fault is likely caused by a key cycle while the engine was running. If the Key Cycle was the cause, the faults are not indicative of any further issues, and can be disregarded.

Generator Power Inverter ECM
DTC Code Description System Response
3163-14 Generator Phase A Power Transistor #1: Special Instruction Activated during Power Inverter Service Test.
3164-14 Generator Phase A Power Transistor #2: Special Instruction Activated during Power Inverter Service Test.
3165-14 Generator Phase B Power Transistor #1: Special Instruction Activated during Power Inverter Service Test.
3166-14 Generator Phase B Power Transistor #2: Special Instruction Activated during Power Inverter Service Test.
3167-14 Generator Phase C Power Transistor #1: Special Instruction Activated during Power Inverter Service Test.

Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
1. Collect Data Transport Files
A. Collect Data Transport files from the Generator Power Inverter ECM. Refer to Troubleshooting, Data - Transport in this manual.
B. Save the files on your computer for possible submission to Caterpillar.
Data Transport Files were successfully downloaded from the Generator Power Inverter ECM and saved to your computer. OK - Data Transport Files were successfully downloaded from the Generator Power Inverter ECM and saved to your computer. Retain in the event a DSN ticket is submitted.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - Data Transport files were not successfully downloaded. Reattempt to collect Data Transport Files and then proceed to Test Step 2.
2. Check for Diagnostic Codes Indicating Loss Of 24V Power At The SR Power Inverter
If all 6 Diagnostic Codes below activate, the SR Power Inverter may not have 24V power.
Generator Diagnostic Codes:
CID 3163
CID 3164
CID 3165
CID 3166
CID 3167
CID 3168
All 6 Diagnostic Codes are not present. OK - All 6 Diagnostic Codes are not present.
Proceed to Test Step 9.
NOT OK - Verify proper voltage for keyswitch, unswitched 24V, and ground at the 12-pin connector on the control harness.
Proceed to Test Step 3.
3. Inspect Power Transistor Connections in the Control Harness
A. Ensure that the key start switch and disconnect switch are OFF.
B. Ensure that the connectors have not been cross threaded and are properly installed.
C. Check for brass shavings in the connector that may have been created by cross threading. The shavings can short pins together.
D. Inspect and clean all the contacts of the harness connectors. Ensure that all the wires and sockets are secured in the connector. Ensure that the contacts are clean, dry, and in good condition. Ensure none of the pins at the ECM and SR Power Inverter are bent.
The control harness is free of damage, dirt, corrosion, and moisture.
Each of the resistance measurements between the sensor contact and all the other contacts used in the harness is greater than 5 KΩ
