Troubleshooting
Perform the following steps when troubleshooting an event:
Obtain the following information from the operator monitor and the machine operator:
The event and the time of the event.
Determine the operating conditions for the engine at the time of the event. Conditions such as engine RPM and load may be important.
Determine if there are any systems that were installed by the dealer or by the customer that could cause the event.
Some of the events below can become active during normal system operation. Verify that the event is not due to error of the operator.
Check all fluid levels and all oil levels.
Troubleshoot and repair any active diagnostic codes. Machine ECM Event Code List
The following table lists the event codes that apply to the control system of the machine. The recommended response is listed. Use the Cat ET service tool to determine the event codes that are active or logged.
Table 2
Machine System Event Identifier (EID) Codes
EID Level Description Recommended Response/Possible Cause
119 2 Low Fuel Level Warning is active for more than 2 seconds. Possible Cause: Low fuel level in the tank, fuel line leakage, or the fuel filter is plugged.
Recommended Response: Check the fuel level in the tank. Perform a diagnostic check on the "Fuel Filter Plugged" switch and the "No. 2 Fuel Filter Plugged" switch.
179 2 Alternator Not Charging Possible Cause: With an engine speed of greater than 600 RPM, the alternator gauge on the control panel is reading zero for more than 60 seconds.
Recommended Response: Use theCat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET) Service Tool to check for diagnostic codes related to the electrical generating system. Check for diagnostic codes related to a failure of the Machine CAN Data Link, as well.
232 2 High Fuel / Water Separator Level Warning Possible Cause: This event is active when the engine speed is less than 300 rpm and the oil status is low for more than 2 seconds.
Recommended Response: With the engine off, check the hydraulic oil level on the liquid indicator gauge on the side of the hydraulic tank. Fill if the tank is low. If the gauge shows that the tank is full, check the hydraulic lines for damage.
235 2 Low Hydraulic Oil Level Possible Cause: This event is active when the engine speed is less than 300 rpm and the oil status is low for more than 2 seconds.
Recommended Response: With the engine off, check the hydraulic oil level on the liquid indicator gauge on the side of the hydraulic tank. Fill if the tank is low. If the gauge shows that the tank is full, check the hydraulic lines for damage.
236 2 Return Hydraulic Oil Filter Plugged Possible Cause: This event is active only when the machine is traveling and the oil temperature is greater than 50° C (122° F) for 10 seconds or more.
Recommended Response: Replace the filter as soon as possible. If filter replacement is not convenient, stop machine travel until oil temperature is less than 50° C (122° F) for 180 seconds or more.
