See the replacement article that follows.Description of Change: A new friction disc and a new brake hub are now used in the service and parking brake group. The former friction disc had five teeth per inch of the pitch diameter. The new friction disc has four teeth per inch of the pitch diameter. The new design will reduce bending stress in each tooth by 30 %. The new design ensures that the service life of the disc will be achieved. This will improve the field service of the machines.Adaptable To: The new 270-9293 Friction Disc is a direct replacement for the former 145-5185 Friction Disc in the 144-0244 Service and Parking Brake Gp (Rear). The new 266-3610 Hub is a direct replacement for the former 163-5281 Brake Hub in the 139-7663 Final Drive, Brake and Wheel Gp. The new 270-9293 Friction Disc and the new 266-3610 Hub must be installed together in order to ensure compatibility.Both new parts are adaptable back to the beginning of production of both the 797 and 797B off-highway trucks. In order to install the new parts on older machines, you must install both the new friction disc and the new brake hub. The new parts became effective in production with the machine JSM327-UP.The new 291-2902 Friction Disc is an option for the new 270-9293 Friction Disc. The new 291-2902 Friction Disc is made from a material that has a longer service life than the material in the new 270-9293 Friction Disc. The new 291-2902 Friction Disc is part of the 250-3934 Service and Parking Brake Gp. When you order a new 250-3934 Service and Parking Brake Gp, a new 266-3610 Hub will also be needed.The 207-1265 Friction Disc is an option for the 145-5185 Friction Disc. The 207-1265 Friction Disc is made from a material that has a longer service life than the material in the 145-5185 Friction Disc. The 207-1265 Friction Disc is part of the 144-0244 Service and Parking Brake Gp .The 145-5185 Friction Disc and the 207-1265 Friction Disc will be available for use with the 163-5281 Brake Hub. The 163-5281 Brake Hubs must pass the reusability guidelines and the 163-5281 Brake Hubs must have satisfactory service life left.
