Simple Schematic for the Operator Seat Belt Switch CircuitThis diagnostic code is associated with the Operator Seat Belt Switch (CID 3797). The seat belt switch has two inputs for the Chassis ECM, Normally Open (N/O) and Normally Closed (N/C). The FMI 02 indicates a parity fault has been detected for these two inputs. This means that the N/O input and the N/C input, of the seat belt switch, are in the same state. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are:
The seat belt switch has failed.
The return circuit (wire J765-BU) is open.
A switch input wire (U729-PU or U730-BR) is permanently open.
A switch input wire (U729-PU or U730-BR) is shorted to either +battery or ground.
(Either failure will cause the Operator Seat Belt Action Alarm will continuously activate.)
The Chassis ECM has failed - this failure is unlikely.Note: Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit.
Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit.
Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, that all connections are secure and that all connections are in good condition.
If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.Test Step 1. CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE SEAT BELT SWITCH (UNLATCHED)
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position. Ensure that the operator safety belt is unlatched.
Disconnect the machine harness connector or the wires from the switch.
Connect one lead from the multimeter to the common contact (C) for the switch.
Connect the other lead from the multimeter to the normally open (N/O) contact (A) for the switch.
Measure the resistance between common contact C and N/O contact A. Note the resistance.
Disconnect the lead from N/O contact A and connect the lead to the normally closed (N/C) contact (B).
Measure the resistance between common contact C and N/C contact B. Note the resistance.Expected Result:The resistance from common
