Information:
For welding in this procedure, use a dry, low hydrogen E7018 weld rod or E70T-5 (do not use E70T-1) cored wire with CO2 gas shielding.1. Install front guards using dimensions given in Illustrations 1 and 2 and their related charts.
Illustration 1. Front Guards on D4H, D4H XL, D4H LGP, 561H. 2. Weld front guards to the track roller frame. Care must be taken to maintain dimension "D" (with wear strips installed). It is important that the guiding guards be spaced equally from side to side [maintain 113 mm (4.45 in) on either side of center line). This will give a clearance between the pin end and the wear strips of approximately 6.0 mm (.24 in) on each side. If installing the guards without wear strips in place, then dimension "D" must be increased as necessary to allow for the thickness of the wear strips. For proper weld penetration, remove weld slag after each pass.3. Take care to keep weld spatter off of area under idler mounting cap. See location C in Illustration 1.
Illustration 2. Front Guards on D4H TSK 4. Some earlier machines used bolt-on end guards with no removable wear strips. If these bolt-on guards are reused, they must be machined or flame cut to obtain the correct clearance of 6 mm (.24 in) on each side.Installation of Rear Guiding Guards
Do not torch or weld on painted areas. The effect of gasses from burned paint is a danger to the person doing the cutting or welding.
For welding in this procedure, use a dry, low hydrogen E7018 weld rod or E70T-5 (do not use E70T-1 cored wire with CO2 gas shielding).1. Install rear guards in the track roller frame, using the dimensions shown in Illustrations 3 and 4 and their respective charts.2. Weld rear guards to the track roller frame as shown in Illustration 3. Care must be taken to maintain dimension "D" (with wear strips installed). It is important that the guiding guards be spaced equally from side to side (maintain 113 mm (4.45 in) on either side of center line). This will give a clearance between the pin end and wear strips of approximately 6 mm (.24 in) on each side. If installing the guards without wear strips in place, then dimension "D" must be increased as necessary to allow later installation of the wear strips. For proper weld penetration, remove weld slag after each pass.3. Take care to keep weld spatter off of area under idler mounting cap.4. Some earlier machine used bolt-on end guards with no removable wear strips. If these bolt-on guards are reused, they must be machined or flamed cut to obtain the correct clearance of 6 mm (.24) on each side.

On standard, XL, LGP, and TSK machines, new center and full length guards for use with heavy duty track can simply be bolted on when new end guiding guards have been installed. Part numbers
