1. Remove cover (1). 2. Remove bolts from the cage (2).3. Use 3/8"-16 NC forcing screws and remove the cage. 4. Remove bearing (3) from the cage with tooling (A).5. Remove O-ring seal (4). 6. Remove retaining ring (5). Remove two plates (6). 7. Remove idler gear (7). 8. Remove idler gear (8) from the case. 9. Use a press and tooling (B) to remove race (9) from gear assembly. If inner bearing must be replaced, it is necessary to remove the bull gear from drum shaft.Install Idler Gears
1. Heat race (1) to a maximum temperature of 135°C (275°F) and install on gear. 2. Install idler gear (2) into the case. Be sure that gear (2) is installed with the grooves for retaining ring toward the outside. 3. Install gear assembly (3). Turn the drum, if necessary, to put the drive gear teeth in alignment with the gear assembly. Put gear assembly into case until bearing is in position in the race. 4. Install spacers (4) and retaining ring (5). 5. Use a press and tooling (A) to install bearing (6) into cage. Install O-ring seal (7) on cage. Lubricate seal with SAE 30 oil. 6. Install the cage (8). 7. Install the gasket and cover (9).
