4. Apply the service brake and check the movement of the adjuster pin. If travel is 3 inches (7.6 cm) or more, adjust the brake. 5. If it is necessary to adjust the brakes, loosen the adjustment locking bolt. 6. Turn the adjusting nut as necessary to limit travel to 2-1/2 inches (6.3 cm).7. Check rod travel on each of the 4 wheels. Adjust the brakes when necessary.8. Start the engine. Apply the parking brake.9. Remove the wheel blocking. When air pressure is in the proper range, release the emergency brake and move the machine to check for dragging brakes.Testing Brakes (Later machines)
Be sure the machine area is free of personnel and obstacles.Fasten the seat belt.
The machine must be on level ground.
1. Start the engine and allow air pressure to reach the normal operating (GREEN) range on the gauge. 2. Apply the service brakes. Raise the bowl. 3. Depress the button to release the parking/emergency brake. Be sure the button stays in. 4. Move the transmission control to 1st speed.5. With the service brake applied increase engine rpm. The service brakes should prevent machine movement at 1125 engine rpm. If the machine moves, stop the engine and have the brake system inspected.6. Decrease the engine rpm and neutralize the transmission. 7. Pull the button out to apply the parking/emergency brake. 8. Move the transmission control to 2nd speed.9. Release the service brake.10. Increase the engine rpm. The parking/emergency brake should prevent machine movement at 2000 engine rpm.11. Decrease engine rpm, neutralize the transmission, lower the bowl and stop the engine. Have the brake system inspected if the machine moves.Testing Brakes (Earlier machines)
