Filler tube for the sump of the engine coupling
The machine must be level. The parking brake must be engaged and the engine must be stopped.
Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact the skin.
Remove the cap from the filler tube in order to prevent a vacuum in the sump. Install the cap after the sump is drained. This will prevent dirt from entering the system.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

(1) Drain valve
Remove the plug from the bottom of drain valve (1). Install a 100 mm (4.0 inch) long 25 mm (1.0 inch) NPTF pipe nipple in drain valve (1). Open drain valve (1) for the sump. Drain the oil into a suitable container. Note: Hand tighten the NPT pipe nipple. Do not use tools.

Remove drain plug (2) from the bottom of the coupling. Drain any remaining oil into a suitable container.
Disconnect tube (3). Remove four bolts (4) that secure cover (5).
Remove the two screens that are under cover (5). Wash the screens in clean nonflammable solvent.
Clean drain plug (2) and install drain plug (2) in the bottom of the coupling.
Clean cover (5). Clean the mounting surface on the bottom of the coupling. Make sure that the gasket on cover (5) is in good condition. Install the two screens under cover (5). Use four bolts (4) to secure cover (5) to the coupling. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 55 10 N m (40 7 lb ft).
Inspect the O-ring at tube (3). Replace the O-ring, if necessary. Connect tube (3) at cover (5).
Remove the pipe nipple from drain valve (1). Clean the plug from drain valve (1). Install the plug in drain valve (1). Close drain valve (1).
Fill the sump of the engine coupling with the same oil type as the engine. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities". See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)". Maintain the oil level to the FULL mark on the dipstick.
Start the engine and operate the engine at low idle. Check for leaks and make necessary repairs.
Clean the dipstick and install the dipstick.
