Personal injury or death may result from failure to adhere to the following procedures.Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire.Clean up all leaked or spilled fuel. Do not smoke while working on the fuel system.Turn the disconnect switch OFF or disconnect the battery when changing fuel filters.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

The fuel tank drain plug is located on the bottom of the fuel tank.
Loosen the fuel tank drain plug. Do not remove the fuel tank drain plug. Allow the water and the sediment to drain into a suitable container and then tighten the fuel tank drain plug.
Add fuel to the fuel tank. Fill the fuel tank at the end of each day of operation. Filling the fuel tank after every day of operation will drive out moist air. Also, filling the fuel tank helps to minimize condensation. Do not fill the fuel tank to the top. Warm fuel expands and the fuel may overflow if the fuel tank is overfilled.Note: Never allow the fuel tank to run dry.
