Illustration 1. Typical view of checking the condition of existing precleaner bearings.2. Gently push on the rotor assembly and determine, by feel, whether or not the rotor moves freely.3. If the rotor moves freely with little or no resistance, the existing bearings are acceptable. If the rotor did not move freely, or did not move at all, the precleaner group must be disassembled, and the new bearing kit installed. Use the following procedure to disassemble the precleaner group and install a new bearing kit. Procedure To Remove And Disassemble An Existing Precleaner Group
Before removing the existing precleaner group, be sure the engine disconnect switch is in the OFF position, and the machine is tagged "DO NOT OPERATE".1. Place location marks on the precleaner hood to help position the hood correctly during the assembly process. Remove the precleaner hood.2. Remove plastic dust seal (1).3. Use a 3/16inch allen wrench to hold rotor bolt assembly (4), and a 7/16inch socket and ratchet assembly to remove nut (11). Also remove optional spacer (10) if necessary.4. Remove rotor bolt assembly (4) from precleaner body (9).5. Remove stainless steel dust shield (8), felt washer (7), and spacer (6), from rotor bolt assembly (4).6. Install nut (11) on rotor bolt assembly (4). This will prevent losing the two bearings and the spacer between the bearings when removing rotor bolt assembly (4) from rotor (2).7. Remove lower retainer clip (5).8. Slide rotor bolt assembly (4) from the bottom of rotor (2).9. Remove upper retainer clip (3). It maybe necessary to lightly tap the head of the rotor bolt assembly with a punch, in order to drive the assembly free.
Location of new 116-0423 Bearing Kit components. (1) Dust seal. (2) Rotor. (3) Upper retainer clip. (4) Rotor bolt assembly (includes two bearings). (5) Lower retainer clip. (6) Spacer. (7) Felt washer. (8) Dust shield. (9) Precleaner body. (10) Spacer (optional). (11) Nylon nut. Procedure To Install A New Bearing Kit And Assemble The Precleaner Group
Before installing a new bearing kit and assembling the precleaner group, be sure the engine disconnect switch is in the OFF position, and the machine is tagged "DO NOT OPERATE".1. Install nut (11) onto rotor bolt assembly (4).2. Push rotor bolt assembly (4) into the bottom of rotor (2) until rotor bolt assembly (4) is flush with upper retaining clip (3). It is important that rotor bolt assembly (4) is recessed beyond the groove of lower retainer clip (5). This will allow lower retainer clip (5) to be installed.3. Install lower retainer clip (5).4. Remove nut (11) from rotor bolt assembly (4).5. Install spacer (6), felt washer (7), and dust shield (8) onto rotor bolt assembly (4).6. Install rotor bolt assembly (4) into precleaner body (9).7. Install optional spacer (10) if necessary, and nut (11).8. Tighten nut (11) to a torque of 13.6 N m (10 lb ft). Do NOT over tighten.9. Install dust seal (1).10. Use the location marks that were made before removing the precleaner hood, and install the precleaner hood.
