VIMS (Vital Information Management System) and VIDS (Vital Information Display System) both use VIMS 3.0 hardware which includes the 130-5131 (VIMS/VIDS Main Module) Electronic Control Group and 144-7172 (VIMS/VIDS Interface Module) Electronic Control Group. Because the hardware is identical VIMS-PC is unable to determine which system (VIMS or VIDS) it has established communications with. The VIMS-PC communicate program allows the user to access all functions of the program even if the function does not apply to VIDS. VIMS-PC is used to perform the following functions with VIDS machines:
1. Upload VIDS machine source and configuration software.2. Copy existing VIDS configuration software from the on-board system.One major difference between VIDS and VIMS is that VIMS stores on-board sensor and event data for downloading, and VIDS does not store any downloadable data. However, as mentioned previously VIMS-PC will step through the download process if instructed to download data files while connected to a VIDS machine. The data files created by such a download are empty and unusable.
