Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.Sudden movement of the machine or release of air pressure or oil pressure can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.To help prevent possible injury before testing and adjusting any air system or hydraulic system, perform the procedure in the Testing and Adjusting, "General Information" section.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Service Brake Valve (2) Shims.
Install a 0 to 10000 kPa (0 to 1450 psi) pressure gauge at pressure port (1) .
Start the engine and permit the oil pressure to rise to the cut-out pressure for the accumulators.
Fully push the service brake pedal and check the reading on the pressure gauge. When the service brake pedal is depressed, the correct brake pressure is 8600 345 kPa (1250 50 psi).
Stop the engine.
As required, install shims (2) or remove shims (2) if the pressure is not within this range. One shim will change the pressure by approximately 90 kPa (13 psi).
Remove the pressure gauge.Left Pedal
Use the left pedal and perform Steps 1 through 4.When the left pedal is depressed, the correct brake pressure is 6200 345 kPa (900 50 psi).
