New software that enables the controlled throttle shift function on 994D Wheel Loaders is available. When the software is installed, full time controlled throttle shift function is enabled as the default mode. The full time mode of the controlled throttle shift function performs the same function as the failure mode of the controlled throttle shift function on the 994D. The failure mode of the controlled throttle shift function is active when there is an electrical fault on the impeller clutch solenoid. The engine speed is reduced to 1100 rpm during directional shifts for both the full time mode of the controlled throttle shift function and the failure mode of the controlled throttle shift function on the 994D. For forward directional shifts, the engine speed is reduced for 1.9 seconds. For reverse directional shifts, the engine speed is reduced for 2.5 seconds. This will improve the service life of the freewheel stator.The new 266-3688 Power Train Software is available for all 994D 3TZ1-UP machines. 266-3688 Power Train Software is available as a flash file in the Caterpillar Service Information System.
