1. Turn the key to the tractor to the off position.2. Remove six bolts and washers (2), and slowly remove the personality module (1) keeping the o-ring with personality module (1).3. Disconnect the electrical plug connecting personality module (1) to electronic control module (3). The following steps are for the installation of the personality module. Use care when installing the electrical plug so that it mates to the jack without side stress. The jack on the electronic control module is designed to allow slight side movement to permit proper alignment of the jack and plug. Misalignment may cause poor or intermittent connections.4. Connect the electrical plug.5. Position personality module (1) with its o-ring, and secure with six bolts and washers (2).6. Match electronic control module (3) with personality module (1).a. The personality module code is a code which prevents the use of the wrong personality module. Each horsepower family and emission certification has a different code associated with it. This code (stored in the electronic control module) MUST match the code in the personality module, or a diagnostic code 56 (Check Customer or Service Parameters) will be generated, and the engine will only run at low idle.When installing a new electronic control module or re-rating an engine, programming this code to 0 (zero) will prompt the electronic control module to read and match it's stored code to the code in the personality module. This code DOES NOT need to be programmed when a personality module is replaced, as long as the new module is of the same engine family.b. Re-rating an engine.For the purpose of re-rating an engine, install tooling (A). If the personality module is of a different family, the engine is in effect being re-rated. This may require that pistons, injectors, turbochargers, etc., may need to be changed. In addition, the Engine Information Plate should be changed to reflect the new engine rating.
