Oil passages in motor (side view from cover) (20) Passage (barrel) (22) Passage (valve plate) (33) Passage (barrel plate)Slipper (16) is coupled to piston (5). The slipper and the piston slide on the surface of cam plate (14) from the top center to the bottom center. The slipper and the piston rotate with barrel (6). Oil from the piston is discharged to port (27) through passage (20) and passage (33) of valve plate (9). Shaft (10) is coupled to barrel (6) through splines. The barrel and the shaft rotate counterclockwise. The force of the rotation is transferred to the left travel drive, and the machine moves forward. In reverse travel, oil is supplied through port (27), and port (26) becomes the discharge port. The left travel motor rotates clockwise, and the machine moves backward.Parking Brake

When no pump oil is supplied to the motor, the motor stops and the parking brake engages.

Brake pilot valve (cross section) (6) Passage (9) Passage (13) Spring (14) Orifice (15) Valve (16) RetainerSeparator plates (5) are splined to motor housing (12), and friction plates (4) are splined to barrel (3) .When no pump oil is supplied to the travel motor, brake piston (8) is pushed to the left by the force of spring (7). Oil in piston chamber (11) goes through passage (9) and orifice (14) in valve (15) to the motor case drain. When brake piston (8) moves to the left, separator plates (5) and friction plate (4) are forced together against motor housing (12) by the force of spring (7). The parking brake engages.Orifice (14) in the brake pilot valve restricts the return oil flow from piston chamber (11). The restriction of the oil flow delays the application of the parking brake. The parking brake is delayed in order to give the machine time to stop. Problems could result if the return oil was not restricted by orifice (2). The parking brake would begin to engage before the end of machine travel. This could cause early wear and/or damage to the machine.Prior to the operation of the travel motor, a portion of the pressure oil is supplied to passage (2) and (6). The oil pushes open valve (15) and the oil flows to piston chamber (11) through passage (9). Brake piston (8) moves to the right against the force of spring (7). The oil pressure that holds friction plate (4) and separator plate (5) is released. This enables barrel (3) and shaft (1) to rotate.Displacement Change Valve
