Engine Oil Pressure (4.) - The pointer must show in the green range. If the pointer does not show in the green range within 30 seconds after starting, turn off the engine and investigate the cause.Have any necessary repairs made before returning the machine to service. Air Pressure (5.) - Shows the air pressure in the air reservoirs in kPa (psi). The operating pressure is above 450 kPa (65 psi). Ammeter (6.) - Shows the charging rate of the alternator. The pointer must show at 0 or on the + side.Air Filter Service Indicator
Shows restrictions in the air flow to the engine. Service the air cleaner any time the indicator piston locks in the RED position.Push the button on the bottom of the indicator to reset it after servicing the air cleaner elements.Light Switch
Panel Lights (1.) - Turn the switch left to the first position to turn on the panel lights. Operating Lights (2.) - Turn the switch one position further to turn on all lights.Horn
Depress the horn button to sound the horn. The horn is used to alert or signal personnel.Starting Aid (Ether)
Starting Aid - Depress the starting aid knob when starting aid is required during cold weather. This releases a premeasured amount of ether into the air intake.
Inject ether only while cranking the engine. Use the ether sparingly. Excessive ether can cause piston and ring damage. Use when temperatures are below 0°C (32°F) for cold weather starting purposes. Refer to "Starting the Engine" for additional information.
Disconnect Switch
On - Insert the key, and turn it to the right to turn on the electrical system. Off - Turn the key to the left to turn off the electrical system.Remove the key when leaving the machine for any extended period of time. Also, remove it when servicing the electrical system.
Never turn the disconnect key off with the engine running. Damage to the electrical system may result.
Fuse and Circuit Breaker
(1.) Check the fuse when an electrical circuit does not function. Replace any fuses on which the filament has separated. (2.) Reset the circuit breaker if it has opened. Push in the red button to reset the circuit breaker.
If it is necessary to replace fuses frequently, or if the circuit breaker requires frequent resetting, contact your Caterpillar dealer.
Back-up Alarm
The alarm should sound when the transmission control lever is in REVERSE. A three position switch at the rear of the back-up alarm regulates its volume. (1) is High, (2) is Low and (3) is Medium.The alarm is set at the highest sound level when shipped from the factory.Seat Adjustment (If Equipped with Suspension Seat)
The seat must be adjusted at the beginning of each shift, or when operators change. Adjust the seat to allow full travel of all pedals with the operator seated against the seat back. The seat must be adjusted with the operator seated, and the engine running. 1. Pull lever (1) to slide the seat forward or backward.2. Move lever (2) to the right for a firmer ride. Move
