Start By:a. remove bevel gear and shaft assembly 1. Remove bolts. Install two 3/8 " NC forcing screws,and remove cage (1). 2. Remove O-ring seal (2) and shim (3) from cage (1). 3. Remove bolt and washer (5) and use a brass drift and a hammer and drive pinion from bearing (4). Remove bearing (4). 4. Remove gear (6) and bevel pinion (7) from the winch case. 5. Remove retaining ring (8) from the case. 6. Use tooling (A), and remove the bearing race. 7. Use tooling (B) and a press to remove bearing (9) from pinion (7).Install Pinion
1. Clean and inspect all parts. Replace parts if worn or damaged. 2. Heat bearing (9) to a maximum temperature of 135°C (275°F), and install it on pinion (7). 3. Lower the temperature of bearing race and install in the case. Install retainer ring (8). 4. Put gear (6) and bevel pinion (7) in position in the winch case. Spacer (10) is used between the inner race of bearing (9) and gear (6). 5. Heat bearing (4) to a maximum temperature of 135°C (275°F), and put it in position on pinion (7). 6. Install washer and bolt (5) on the pinion and tighten the bolt.7. Before the final pinion adjustment can be made the bevel gear and shaft assembly must be installed (see the topic install bevel gear and shaft assembly for details). 8. Use two 3/8" NC guide bolts, and put cage (1) in position without shims or the O-ring seal.9. Install a 16.28 .05 mm (.641 .002 in) gauge block between (B) the bevel gear shaft and the gear end of the pinion.10. With the gauge block in position between the shaft and the pinion and while applying pressure on cage (1) measure the clearance between the cage (1) and the winch case in four locations. The average of the four measurements is the amount of shims (3) necessary to correctly locate the pinion.11. Remove the gauge block and install the amount of shims measured in step 10 between the cage (1) and winch case. Put O-ring seal (2) in position on cage (1). Lubricate O-ring seal with SAE 30 oil. Apply 9S3265 Retaining Compound to six bolts and tighten to 49 3 N m (36 2 lb ft).12.
