Introduction
This instruction should be used when Subsystem Module Programming is used (in ET) to file-flash Electronic Pilot Valve modules. Hardware, Software, and Flash File requirements are outlined at the beginning of this instruction. The programming procedure and a few pertinent screen captures follow the requirements sections.Hardware Required
To use Subsystem Module Programming in CAT ET, the following hardware is required:
Comm Adapter II
Windows-based computer with serial portSoftware Required
To use Subsystem Module Programming in CAT ET, the minimum software version requirements are listed below. This software must be installed on the computer or on the machine ECM.
ET version 2003B Service (or later) - TH355B requires ET version 2003 Service Pack 1 (or later)
Machine ECM software (251-9382.fls or higher) that supports submodule programming
Software (253-1881.smp or higher) that supports being flashed by subsystem module programmingFlash Files Required
In order to successfully flash a submodule using subsystem module programming, the following flash files should be downloaded from the file server:
The latest application code for the submodule to be flashed (253-1881.smp or higher)
The latest application code for the machine ECM (251-9382.fls or higher)Note: In the event that the software on the machine is not compatible with subsystem module programming, a one-time machine ECM flash may be required.Procedure
Connect the Comm Adapter II to the machine service tool connector.
Connect the Comm Adapter II to the computer.
Turn on the computer
Turn the machine key to the "ON" position.
Open ET application. Select "Machine ECM".
Select the "Service" pull-down menu. Select "Subsystem Module Programming".Note: If the "Subsystem Module Programming" selection is not available, either the ET version or the Machine ECM software version is not compatible with subsystem module programming. In this case, either update the ET version (2003B or later) or flash the latest machine ECM software (251-9382.fls or higher) and then retry subsystem module programming.
Wait until screen shows all submodules that may be programmed.Note: If the submodule to be programmed is not listed, it may not be connected or it may not be functioning properly. Verify connection of the submodule, cycle machine power, and retry.
From the list on the left of the display, select the submodules to be programmed.Note: An entire network of submodules can be flashed with the same file by selecting the network group ("SSV" in Illustration 1 below) and then clicking on the "Select Subsystem" button. Individual submodules can be flashed by clicking on the submodule and then clicking on the "Select Submodule" button.
Select the .smp file (253-1881.smp or higher) with which to program the modules. Each submodule that is selected to be flashed in Step 8 must have programming software selected. If an entire submodule network was selected in Step 8, select only software for that submodule network.
Press the "Begin Programming" button.
When programming is complete, the process ends. Reprogramming the machine ECM is not necessary after subsystem module programming.
