(1) Temperature gauge for the brake oil and the retarder and converter oil Both the temperature gauge (1) and the alert indicator (2) sense the temperature of the torque converter outlet oil and the temperature of the oil from the right rear brake. The alert indicator (2) in the EMS panel is connected to a temperature switch in the torque converter outlet valve and to a temperature switch in the return line from the right rear brake.
Check the temperature gauge for the brake oil and the retarder and converter oil (1) regilarly. Do not allow the brake oil, torque converter oil and hoist hydraulic oil temperatures to become too hot during this test sequence. Overheated oil could cause damage to the torque converter, brakes and hoist hydraulic systems. The alert indicator for the retarder and converter oil temperature (2) is located on the EMS panel. The EMS action light is located above the speedometer. Both the alert indicator and the EMS action light will turn on when the oil temperature is too hot. If the alert indicator and action light turn on, you must reduce the load on the machine or slow the retarding speed. Move the truck to a convient place to park and keep the engine operating. Move the manual retarder lever all the way down in order to cool the oil.
Problem : The oil temperature gauge indicates a high temperature, but the alert indicator and the EMS action light are OFF.
Probable CauseThe electrical system is the probable cause. Refer to Schematic, "793B Truck Electrical System".Problem : The oil temperature gauge indicates that the temperature is NOT high, but the alert indicator and the EMS action light are ON.
Note: The alert indicator (2) activates at approximately 124 °C (255 °F). The alert indicator remains activated until the oil temperature decreases to approximately 110 °C (230 °F). Therefore, it is possible for the temperature gauge (1) to display a normal oil temperature while the alert indicator (2) is still activated.Probable CauseThe electrical system is the probable cause. Refer to Schematic, "793B Truck Electrical System".Problem : The temperature gauge indicates a high temperature and the alert indicator is ON.
Probable CauseThe machine is being operated improperly.Refer to Operation And Maintenance Manual, "793B Off-Highway Truck" for the correct operating techniques for the brake and the retarder system.Operate the machine again. Make sure that engine speed does not drop below 1700 rpm. This ensures that enough oil flows through the torque converter and the brake oil coolers in order to keep the oil at normal operating temperature.Problem : The truck is being operated properly, but the temperature gauge continues to indicate a high temperature and the alert indicator remains ON.
Probable CauseThere is a restriction in the oil cooling systems.To determine whether there is a restriction in the cooling system, remove the cover from the brake
