Causes of Damage
The abrasion of the track roller side rubber surface occurs under normal operation, but can be accelerated under certain operating conditions. The level of abrasion will increase when rubber tracks are operated in sandy or gravel conditions, also in ground conditions where dirt can become stuck to the track rollers and drive components. After extended periods of abrasion it is more likely for the track to fail through corrosion of steel cords, due to water ingress around the embedded metals.

After operation in sandy or gravel conditions or ground conditions where dirt may become stuck to the track rollers and drive components, operators should wash down the machine to remove these materials.Cuts and Tears on Track Edges
The edges of the rubber track do not have special reinforcements. Under certain operating conditions the edge of the track may be cut or torn. In such cases the track does not need replaced.Causes of Damage
The damage is caused by objects in the field or by interference with the machine.In the case of damage by objects on the ground:
The edges of rubber tracks are often deformed by bumpy ground conditions, stones, and other objects. Bumpy ground conditions cause high stress areas on the edges of the track, resulting in damage. When machines drive over concrete ridges, curbs, or large rocks, then this type of damage easily occurs.In the case of damage by interference with the machine:
If a machine operates with derailed rubber tracks, the track may be caught on the undercarriage of the machine or the drive components resulting in damage.
When a machine travels along severe side slopes, the rubber tracks may be deformed to the point where the tracks come into contact with the structure of the undercarriage resulting in damage.

When traveling the operator should be careful not to drive over any projections on the ground. The operator should also prevent rubber tracks from coming into contact with concrete walls, ditches, and ridges.
