Use Tooling (M) to adjust the wheel bearing preload. Refer to Tool Operating Manual, NEHS0921, "193-4122 Rear Wheel Bearing Preload Adjuster for 785 Off-Highway Trucks".
Use a suitable lifting device to position the preload adjuster of Tooling (M) onto the base plate of Tooling (M).
Apply Tooling (N) onto the bolts of Tooling (M). Install the bolts . Tighten the bolts to a torque of 339 N m (250 lb ft) in a diagonal pattern by one quarter turn at a time.

Set the dial indicators of Tooling (M) to read zero.

Loosen the bolts of Tooling (M) by one quarter turn at a time in an alternating diagonal pattern until all the bolts are free of base plate of Tooling (M).

Clean the threads that are in the spindle. Ensure that the spindle is free of burrs. Use a suitable lifting device to install the preload adjuster of Tooling (M) onto the spindle.
Apply Tooling (N) onto the bolts of Tooling (M). Install the bolts. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 339 N m (250 lb ft) in a diagonal pattern by one quarter turn at a time.

Use Tooling (P) to release the parking brake. Do not exceed 4137 kPa (600 psi).
Rotate the wheel by a minimum of three revolutions.

Record the measurement from each of the dial indicators of Tooling (M) and average the measurements. Record the average measurement as Dimension (X).
Use a suitable lifting device to remove the preload adjuster of Tooling (M).

Install shims (12) that is equal to Dimension (X).

Install retainer (11). Install bolts (10). Tighten bolts (10) to a torque of 250 25 N m (184 18 lb ft). Loosen every other bolt (10) and tighten to a torque of 250 25 N m (184 18 lb ft) plus an extra 60° 5°. Loosen the remaining bolts and tighten to a torque of 250 25 N m (184 18 lb ft) plus an extra 60° 5°.
Install bearing (9).

Install gear (8). Install thrust washer (7).

Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Final Drive - Assemble" for the assembly procedure for planetary carrier (6). Use a suitable lifting device to remove planetary carrier (6). The weight of planetary carrier (6) is approximately 209 kg (460 lb).

Install O-ring seal (5).

Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Final Drive - Assemble" for the assembly procedure for planetary carrier (3). Use Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to install planetary carrier (3). The weight of planetary carrier (3) is approximately 544 kg (1200 lb).
